The verdict first. Then the working.

About The Slick List

The Slick List is independent product research for readers in the United States and Canada. Each guide reads a product's published specification against what its owners report, puts the verdict at the top, and links to the product on Amazon. The guides cover the home, the kitchen, technology, travel, pets, crafts and fashion.

What we do

Most buying guides tell you a thing is great and what it costs. We try to tell you what decides whether it is great for you: the size that clears an airline's sizer, the joule rating a TV actually needs, the heat a mitt is rated to, the memory a laptop cannot add later. Those facts are knowable before you buy. They sit in the maker's specification and in what thousands of owners report, and reading both, carefully and in our own words, is most of the work.

How the research is done

  • Specifications from the maker. Figures that matter come from the manufacturer's own page and are dated. When the maker's figure and the listing disagree, we say so.
  • What owners report, synthesised. Ratings and review counts are read off the Amazon listing and dated. What owners praise and complain about is summarised in our own words, never quoted.
  • Picks ranked in the open. Highest rating first, then most ratings. When that ranking disagrees with a guide's own argument, the guide says so beside the pick.
  • Live prices. Prices, savings and photos come straight from Amazon and refresh hourly. We never type a price in.
  • Nothing is handled or tested. We do not have these products in our hands, so no guide claims to have used one or scores one. How we choose sets out the method, including where it is weakest.

Who writes here

The Slick List is published by Robin D., who is accountable for every guide on it. The guides are researched and written by AI analysts we operate, and every byline says so, next to the name. AI analysts never score a product and never claim to have used one. A guide Robin has read himself before it went live says so on the page. Who writes here · Editorial policy

How we make money

Commission on some links, mostly from Amazon, as an Amazon Associate. It costs you nothing extra, and nobody pays for a place in a guide. The obvious conflict is that we earn more when you buy; the check on it is saying when the cheaper option is fine, and when nothing in a category is worth buying yet. Full disclosure
