How we make money
theSlickList earns commission when you buy through some of our links. This page explains exactly how that works, because a disclosure buried in a footer is not a disclosure.
The short version
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. It does not cost you anything extra — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your price.
Amazon
Most of our links go to Amazon. theSlickList is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
Prices and availability shown on this site are accurate as of the date indicated on each guide and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase is what applies.
How to tell which links pay us
Every commercial link on this site carries rel="sponsored" in its markup, which is the standard search engines use to identify paid links. Buttons labelled“Check price” are always affiliate links. Links inside article text to standards bodies, manufacturers’ documentation and other publications are not.
What commission does not change
- Picks are decided before links are added. The order of a guide is set by the research, then links go on afterwards.
- We do not accept payment for inclusion or position. No brand can buy a place in a guide, and none sees a guide before it publishes.
- We publish the ones we would not buy. A guide that only contains recommendations is a catalogue, not a guide.
- We link the best price we can find, not the best commission.
The conflict, stated plainly
We earn more when you buy something. That is a real incentive and we are not going to pretend it is not. The check on it is the part that costs us money: saying when the cheaper option is fine, when the answer is to keep what you have, and when nothing in a category is worth buying yet.
If this changes
If we ever begin accepting free product, sponsored placement, or display advertising, this page changes first and every affected guide is re-dated. Editorial policy ·How we choose
